Bern was actually an isolated city for a long time due to the elevation changes and a river running around it. After they built a bridge or two it became a center of commerce.

The famous bear pits. These guys get fed by the tourists, so they know how to pander. Also, next to the bear pits is a tourist center. If you are in Bern watch the multimedia presentation they have, it is excellent.

I spent a lot of time “Bee hunting“, this one came out the best. If you look closely, you can see the pollen on the bee.
